Billy Redmayne has made a name for himself this past year as a very talented up and coming road racer, most notably for winning the Junior Manx Grand Prix riding for Martin Bullock Manxsport. Billy also became the 8th member of 'The Tommy Club' which recognizes riders who complete a 120mph lap, Billy achieved a very impressive lap speed of 121.523mph. Billy was also awarded a trophy from the Andres Racing Association for the best performance by a club member. 2015 saw Billy take part in many other road races riding his own Honda CBR600RR, including the Southern 100, Tandragee, Armoy and Olivers Mount, all of which he was a newcomer. Depsite this, Billy was quick to learn each track and managed to finish in the top ten in all races, impressing many people.
In 2014 Billy won the newcomers race 'A' in the Manx Grand Prix and came second in the junior. On top of this he won various awards including The G D Hanson Trophy: Fastest Lap, The Hogg Trophy: Fastest lap of the meeting by a local resident with a lap speed of 119.064mph in the junior race, The York Trophy: Most meritious preformance by a local resident, The Aitcheson Trophy: Winning newcomers race 'A' and the Duncan Muir and Val Conaty trophy: Fastest lap. Billy was also awarded two trophies from the Andreas Racing Association: The Lewney Cup and The Terry Smith Trophy for best performance by a local resident and fastest lap in the MGP.
Billy started racing aged 13 with the Manx Youth Motor Project, he did schoolboy motorcross for 4 years, with his best motorcross championship position being 6th position when he was 16 years old in the adult 'A' group championship. He raced a yamaha YZ 85, 125 and a 250. He also finished 3rd in the Isle of Man grass and sand championship the same year. Billy joined the British Army in 2008, then tried out a road race bike (a 2005 Honda CBR600RR) He participated in a handful of races on this bike in 2011 and 2012 with good results at Anglesey with Derby Phoenix and at Jurby with Andreas Racing Association. Billy spent 2013 getting his national racing license with Derby Phoenix and he finished 8th in the F600 championship.
In May 2014 Billy raced at Cadwell Park Derby Phoenix and he achieved 4 wins and 3 seconds in the F600 and 675 allcomers classes. These were the only races Billy was able to take part in before The Manx Grand Prix due to being deployed with the army for 6 months. He was able to race The Manx Grand Prix whilst back on R and R. Billy had to rely on watching videos of onboard footage as his preperation for the MGP. So with the support from work, and more races under his belt, 2015 is set to be an amazing year for Billy!
